Bassoon
- major and minor scales
- An etude from Weissenborn Fifty Advanced Studies
- At least two movements (one slow, one fast) from
a sonata, concerto, or similar work, preferably from
the Baroque or Classical period
Clarinet
- Major and minor scales
- Two contrasting movements from the concerto, sonata,
and/or solo literature, including one contemporary work
- Two orchestral excerpts
Flute
- Major and minor scales
- An etude at the level of Anderson Opus 60
- Two contrasting selections from the concerto, sonata,
or solo literature, such as:
- Concerti by Mozart, CPE Bach, Nielsen, Ibert
- Sonatas by Poulenc, Prokofiev, Liebermann
Oboe
- Major and minor scales, in varied articulations
- A Ferling study (any fast one)
- Two movements (one slow, one fast) from a Baroque
sonata
Saxophone (classical)
- Major and minor scales
- Two prepared etude (one slow, one fast) from either
Ferling 48 Études for Saxophone or Voxman Selected
Studies for Saxophone
- Two complete works (all movements) from among the
following:
- Creston Sonata
- Heiden Sonata
- Eccles Sonata
- Bozza Impovisation et Caprice
- Bonneau Caprice en forme de valse
Applicants wishing to concentrate on tenor saxophone
should prepare the following:
- All Movements of Galliard Sonata No. 4 or Telemann
Sonata in C minor
- All movements of Tuthill Concerto; Tuthill Sonata;
or Villa Lobos Fantasia
- Two selections (one slow, one fast) from Ferling
48 Etudes for Oboe/Sax
