Audition Requirements

Violin
- Two contrasting movements, including applicable cadenzas,
from a concerto of the standard repertory
(for example: Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Shostakovich, Prokofiev, etc.)
- A major movement of an unaccompanied Partita or Sonata
of J.S. Bach (for example: fuga, ciaconna)
- A Paganini caprice
- Two contrasting movements of a nineteenth- or twentieth-century sonata
for violin and piano
Viola - MM
- Two movements from the Bach Cello Suites, or two movements from the Bach Violin Sonatas and Partitas.
- One movement from the standard sonata repertoire, such as Brahms, Schubert, Clarke, or Schumann.
- One movement of a major concerto, such as Walton, Bartók, or Hindemith.
Viola - AD and DMA
- An entire Bach Suite or Sonata or Partita, from the above list.
- An entire romantic sonata, as above.
- An entire concerto, as above.
Violoncello
- Two contrasting movements, including applicable cadenzas,
from a concerto of the standard repertory
(for example: Haydn D major, Dvorak, Schumann, Elgar, Shostakovich,
Tchaikovsky Rococo Variations, or Bloch Schelomo)
- Three movements, including a Prelude, from an unaccompanied
Suite by J.S. Bach
- Two contrasting movements of a nineteenth or twentieth century
sonata for cello and piano
- A work of the applicant's choice:
either a contemporary work (such as the Sonatas by Crumb or Ligeti),
or a piece to display the applicant's technical virtuosity
(such as those by Popper, Davidov, or Servais)
Double Bass
- A three-octave major/minor scale of applicant's choice.
- Three selections from three different periods of time:
Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary
(choices may be a movement of a concerto or sonata).
- Three significant orchestral excerpts.
