Enriqueta Somarriba

Piano instructor

Pianist Enriqueta Somarriba performs in the United States, her native Spain and other European countries, both as soloist and chamber musician. She has performed in Weil Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Cervantes Institute of New York, Liederkranz Concert Hall, Lincoln Center and Auditorio Nacional de Musica in Madrid, among other venues. Ms. Somarriba has appeared as a soloist with the Andres Segovia Orchestra and conductor Victor Ambroa in the presence of Queen Sofia of Spain and other orchestras in her native country. A winner of Rutgers University Annual Concerto Competition 2017, she will perform Chopin Concerto No. 2 with Rutgers Symphony Orchestra next season in a concert broadcasted nationally on 89.1 WWFM radio. She is a first prize winner in numerous national and international competitions. Ms. Somarriba has especial affinity to Spanish and Latin American repertoire and a deep interest in contemporary music, premiering works by living composers in her native country and in the States. In 2016, Somarriba collaborated with pianist Min Kwon in the CD recording for MSR Classics of Paul Reale's Four-Hands and Two-Piano works.

Ms. Somarriba studied with Solomon Mikowsky at the Manhattan School of Music and she is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Piano Performance under scholarship with Min Kwon at Rutgers University. As a teacher, her students are winners of national and international competitions and have performed at important venues such as Carnegie Hall.
