Michelle Grondin-Gergich

Private Instructor - Flute

Michelle Gergich has wide-ranging experience as a flutist and piccolo performer and teacher, conductor, clinician, and chamber music coach.  Gergich holds a Master of Music Degree in Instrumental Conducting from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, where she studied with Kraig Alan Williams, and a Bachelor of Music Performance Degree from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, where she studied flute with Immanuel Davis and conducting with Jerry Luckhardt.

Gergich serves as flute professor and chamber music coach for the Young Artist and Adult Chamber Music Programs at the Mason Gross Extension Division. In addition, Mrs. Gergich conducts the Wind Ensembles of the Bravura Youth Orchestras and Veritas Youth Symphony Orchestras and teaches for the Tian Guo Marching Band. Annually, Gergich co-teaches an intensive Summer Chamber Music Camp geared toward elementary and middle school student ensembles at Stanley Clark School in South Bend, IN.  Gergich’s interest in the correlation between music and early childhood development led her to pursue a minor in Child Psychology, and apply her knowledge in teaching general music classes for children ages 6 months to 7 years, chamber music to ages 7 years onward, and lessons to children starting at the age of three.

Gergich began her flute studies at age five. Chamber Music experiences soon followed, with public chamber music performances starting at age nine. Gergich's high school chamber ensemble, The Zenith Quartet, received the 2008 Kenneth Geoffroy Memorial Award from the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Gergich is a two time Wind Division Winner of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition, performing her solo piccolo debut with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra in 2006. Gergich’s passion for music grew as she participated in youth symphonies from grades 7-12, in the South Bend Symphony Youth Concert Orchestra, Elkhart Youth Honors Orchestra, South Bend Youth Symphony Orchestra, and also as Principal Flute of the South Bend Symphony Side-by-Side Orchestra for two years.    In 2008, as a high school senior, Grondin-Gergich had the opportunity to participate in both the Indiana All-State Orchestra and the ASTA National High School Honors Orchestra, which ultimately inspired her to pursue a career in music and share her love of music-making with the younger generations.
